River and Ronny on Roanoke’s ‘booming bike culture’
Given the full-on media hype, you would have thought the Queen was in town. Veteran actor and Americana musician Ronny Cox asked River Laker of the Roanoke Public Libraries, who coordinated the event, how Laker managed to secure so much press coverage. “Persistence,” replied Car Less Brit.
Cox’s concert at the Elmwood Park branch of Roanoke’s library system was well-attended, drawing a crowd of over 300 people to the free show. “This wasn’t my regular Facebook crowd,” says Laker. “I only got about 20 confirmations online.”
Laker uses the social networking site to pimp events for the Library’s Emerging Artists series, which features newly discovered acts from a variety of musical genres.
Ronny Cox visited Roanoke last Thursday and Friday on his tour to promote his latest CD–Songs with Repercussions.
SCH foreign correspondent and bike blogger River Laker spoke with Cox about the Star City’s growing niche as a tourist destination for bicycling enthusiasts.
